10 Family Travel Destinations Within One Energi Charge of Atlanta

Ford’s newest plug-in hybrid, the Fusion Energi SE, has an estimated range of 620 miles when starting with a full tank of gas and fully charged battery.  Since we’re located in Atlanta, we wondered where we could go and get home on one charge and one tank of gas. Here are ten of our favorite options:

1.)  Charleston, South Carolina (298 mi in each direction) – The oldest and second largest city in the southeastern United States is a great dining, walking, and shopping destination. According to Wikipedia, the town has also been noted for being “America’s Most Friendly [City]” by Travel + Leisure in 2011 and in 2013 by Condé Nast Traveler, and also “the most polite and hospitable city in America” by Southern Living magazine.

2.)  Columbus, Georgia (170 mi in each direction) – There are three great attractions around Columbus that you will not want to miss out on- the Chattahoochee River and The National Infantry Museum, and Callaway Gardens. The natural flow of the Chattahoochee River through downtown Columbus, GA has been restored allowing for whitewater rafting and you won’t want to miss seeing America’s military history at The National Infantry Museum and a day at Robin Lake Beach at Callaway Gardens can be just what the doctor ordered.

3.)  Nashville, Tennessee (247 mi in each direction) – Not just the home of country music anymore, Nashville is a lively city with something for everyone. Whether you see a show at the Grand Ole Opry, visiting the replica of the Parthenon, seeing a Titans game, or spending the night at the gorgeous Union Station Hotel, there’s something for everyone.

4.)  Huntsville, Alabama (180 mi in each direction) – Take a stroll through space history at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Marshall Space Flight Center. Want more out of your visit? Stop for a refuel and check out the Natural Bridge which is 70 miles from Huntsville.

6.)  Savannah, Georgia (247 mi in each direction) – Spend a day surrounded by history, art, boutique shopping, boats, and Southern cuisine when you spend a day in Savannah. But, don’t just go to Savannah for the day. We recommend spending the night at one of their historic hotels, taking in a ghost tour, and taking advantage of one of the city’s many rooftop patios.

7.)  Gatlinburg, Tennessee (197.6 mi in each direction) – Bears, history, an amusement park named after a glittering country music superstar- Gatlinburg has it all! Go in the autumn and see some of the best foliage colors in the United States or head to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the summer to escape the summer heat.

8.)  Greenville, South Carolina (145.5 mi in each direction) – A great “day away” destination for adults, we recommend spend a day strolling and shopping around downtown Greenville’s recently revamped streetscapes, taking in a Greenville Drive game, bike on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, or see a show at the world-class theatre at Bob Jones University.

9.)  Tybee Island, Georgia (265.2 mi in each direction) – Want a day at the beach? Don’t spend the extra fuel driving to Florida when you can head to Tybee Island’s beaches, especially on a weekday.
