Honda Giving Fits Free Safety Upgrades

Is the Fit fit for the road? 2014_Honda_Fit_030

In March of this year Honda provided an early-production 2015 Fit to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for testing consideration in the IIHS 2014 award year.  The Fit achieved GOOD ratings in four IIHS test modes, and a “marginal” rating in the small overlap frontal crash test. “Honda’s deep-rooted commitment to safety and to our customers is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that we were not satisfied with anything but a TOP SAFETY PICK for the new 2015 Honda Fit,” said Art St. Cyr, vice president of auto operations at American Honda.

Honda engineers put feet to this commitment by developing a modification to the front bumper structure, a change confirmed as successful by additional IIHS testing resulting in an “acceptable” rating in the small overlap frontal crash test.   The updated bumper is being fitted to vehicles in production now.  Further indicating their commitment to safety, Honda will update the front bumper beam in the approximate 12,000 early-production 2015 Fits already on the road.  The retrofit will bring those vehicles the TOP SAFETY PICK rating the Fits manufactured with the upgrade will have.

Fit owners can access information on the upgrade to determine if their vehicle is eligible for the update or if it already has the updated bumper design from the factory beginning in late-September by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option 4.
