Cadillac Aims to be Intelligent and Connected in 2017
GM CEO Mary Barra recently announced two “intelligent and connected” vehicle technologies Cadillac aims to debut for the 2017 model year.
The 2017 CTS will feature a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology. Similarly equipped vehicles will be able to send and receive basic safety information such as location, speed, and direction of travel between vehicles approaching each other. This information sharing is expected to improve traffic congestion and even mitigate collisions. V2V can also be used to supplement already existing driver-assistant technologies.
An as-yet unnamed all-new for 2017 Cadillac will feature GM’s new automated driving technology currently known by the working name Smart Cruise. Smart Cruise is designed to increase driver comfort by providing hands-off lane following, braking, and speed control in certain conditions. GM expects it to be useful in bumper-to-bumper driving and on road trips.
