Dodge Ram Spin-Off Now Paying Off for Chrysler

In 2009, Dodge made the controversial decision to separate Ram into its own division. The decision was controversial because at the time is was made Chrysler faced bankruptcy- a circumstance that usually sees consolidation and streamlining. The Ram Truck brand set out with the stated goal “to build the best pickup trucks and commercial vehicles in the industry.
The Ram Truck gamble appears to be paying off. At the time the separate brand was developed in 2009, Ram trucks accounted for 11% of truck sales. In August of this year their slice of the truck sales pie increased to 21% of full-size truck sales. Critics have also taken note as the Ram 1500 was named Motor Trend Truck of the Year for 2013 and 2014 making it the first back-to-back winner of the award.
