10 Things You Need to Know About the All-New FIAT 500X

FIAT’s vehicle line is expanding in 2015 with the 2016 model year offerings to include the all-new FIAT 500X, an all-wheel-drive crossover. Here’s what you need to know before you head to the showroom to test drive one:

1.)  Don’t leave home yet. The all-new FIAT 500X will arrive in FIAT studios in North America in the first half of 2015.

2.)  It seats five. FIAT doesn’t tell us if that’s “comfortably” or not.

3.)  There are two engines to choose from- one with a manual transmission, one with an automatic transmission. The fuel-efficient 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, with an output of 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque, and is paired exclusively to a nine-speed automatic transmission on all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive models.

4.)  You get to choose how you drive. The Dynamic Selector system allows the driver to choose from three modes (Auto, Sport and Traction +) for the most suitable vehicle configuration for different driving conditions.

5.) The 2016 FIAT 500X offers up to 70 standard and available safety and security features. Security features include the Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection. Electronic stability control (ESC) with Hill-start Assist and electronic roll mitigation is standard on all models, as are seven air bags.

6.)  Available features combine technology, convenience, and comfort. The FIAT 500X is available with features like Uconnect 6.5 radio with a 6.5-inch high-resolution touchscreen and navigation, Bluetooth streaming audio, Uconnect Access Via Mobile, a 3.5-inch color thin-film transistor (TFT) cluster display, Keyless Enter-N-Go, and heated front seats and steering wheel.

7.) The 500X is meant to be a more mature looking version of the FIAT 500. The 500X was designed at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy, “where designers leveraged the character and iconic features of the FIAT 500 into a larger and more mature package.” Notably, on the exterior, design elements like double headlamps, a trapezoidal nose, the signature “whiskers and logo” face and the rounded clamshell hood pay homage to the 1991 Fiat Cinquecento.

8.)  The 500X will come with Fiat’s standard warranties including:

  • Basic Limited Warranty – 4 Yrs/50,000 Miles
  • Anti-Corrosion Perforation Limited Warranty (Outer Panel) – 5 Yrs/100,000 Miles
  • Roadside Assistance (services include the following) – 4 Yrs/Unlimited:
    • Flat tire service
    • Out of Gas/Fuel Delivery (max 2 gallons)
    • Battery jump assistance
    • Lockout service
    • Towing assistance

9.)  There will be a more sedan like version of the 500X and the 500X Trekking which is elevated for more rugged terrain giving it a more SUV-like look. Marketing materials also promised the Trekking edition offers “rugged touches.”

10.)  The 500X will come in 12 colors– Bronzo Magnetico, Bronzo Magnetico Opaco, Rosso Perla, Grigio Argento, Arancio, Grigio Arte, Rosso Passione, Giallo Amalfi Tristrato, Blu Venezia, Nero Cinema, Verde Toscana, Bianco Gelato.
