Buick Gets Further Away From Stereotypes with Avenir Concept

2014’s Buick ad campaigns centered around people not being able to tell a Buick’s a Buick. And, from the look of things, they’re getting even further away from the look they’ve been known for with the unveiling of the new Avenir Concept.
The Avenir – French for future – is the creation of a global team of Buick designers and sculptors who were inspired by historic Buick concepts, which pushed traditional boundaries, shaped future Buick models and influenced the entire auto industry.
“Avenir embodies Buick design, which centers on effortless beauty and presence without pretense,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design. “It demonstrates the growing international reach of Buick and offers an exciting vision of where it can go.”
The long hood and and sloping design are a nod to Buick’s past while a large grill design is meant to “put a face on the brand” with LED headlights on either side.
“The new grille is a modern interpretation of a design introduced on the landmark 1954 Wildcat II concept, which shattered expectations of what a Buick was supposed to be,” said Simcoe. “On the Avenir, it represents a break from convention and progressiveness in technology.”
The vehicle’s interior surface’s were inspired by the sea and are said to “flow seamlessly through the cabin.” While the vehicle is also designed to allow you to seamlessly leave your home integrating technology into the car that will give drivers the ability to access home security cameras, turn on outside lights, and close a garage door that was inadvertently left open from inside their car.
“The Avenir’s integration features build on the technologies already available or coming soon in smartphones and streamline them in a system that makes accessing and interacting with them easier,” said Wetzel.
Personal connectivity extends to rear-seat passengers- great for families, where USB ports and video screens allow occupants to plug in to their favorite media.
From technology to tailpipe, most every part of the Avenir shows of Buick’s impresive brand evolution and devotion to incorporating the latest technology- something the brand hasn’t been known for in decades.
