Lexus Adds RC 200t, RC 300 AWD for 2016

A luxury sports coupe was added to Lexus‘ model line last year and, one year on, the RC offerings are expanding for MY 2016. The new RC 200t and RC 300 AWD have been added to the RC 350 RWD F SPORT offering buyers more options for the luxury coupe purchase.

RC 200t

The new RC 200t, available as RWD only, comes equipped with a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with intercooler paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Put your foot down and you’ll feel the 241 hp and 258 lb.-ft. torque at 1,650-4,400 rpm.

According to Lexus, “The RC 200t engine features a combination of water-cooled cylinder head, integrated exhaust manifold and twin scroll turbocharger for fast throttle response, performance and high torque at low engine revs.  Variable Valve Timing intelligent – Wide (VVTi-W) allows the engine to switch between the Otto and Atkinson cycles.”

Lexus developed the engine’s turbocharger completely in-house. How does it work? The automaker says, “The D-4ST direct injection system combines a high pressure fuel system for injection directly in to the cylinders with a low pressure system for injection into the ports. Injection is split between the direct and port injectors according to the engine load to help fuel economy.”

RC 300 AWD

If you live above the Mason-Dixon line, the RC 300 AWD may be a better fit for you. It’s 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission offers 255 hp and 236 lb.-ft. torque at 2,000-4,800 rpm.

All RC models come with a 48-month/50,000 mile basic limited warranty with roadside assistance for 48 months/unlimited miles, 72 months/70,000 miles powertrain and restraint system coverage and 72 months corrosion perforation protection coverage, regardless of mileage.
